Together in Hope – Big Camp 2026

Edited by Naomi Janmaat

But those who hope in the lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:31

Across the Easter weekend, more than 2,500 people chose to attend the Victorian Conference Big Camp. While some visited for the day, most pitched tents on the grounds of Elmore Events Centre; nevertheless, all were eager to be surrounded by community and immersed in inspirational messages.

This year, each division explored the transformative power of hope and its vital role in inspiring change, uniting communities, and, most importantly, strengthening our relationship with Christ.

Encounter | Pr Tui Fanene

The theme, 'Together in Hope', resonated deeply as we confronted the challenges facing our world today and their impacts on our homes and communities. The Encounter Pavilion, led by our division leader, Pr Victor Acuna, and a dedicated team of pastors and volunteers, played a pivotal role in creating an inspiring and welcoming atmosphere for all attendees.

From the backstage preparations to the friendly ushers and greeters at the entrance, the Encounter team exemplified commitment and seamless coordination. Their hard work ensured that every detail was thoughtfully addressed, allowing everyone to focus on the spiritual nourishment provided throughout the whole weekend.

Our guest speakers, Chuck Hagele and Dr Edita Jankiewicz, delivered inspirational and thought-provoking messages. Their insights not only motivated those who heard them but also urged us to consider the significance of unity in our mission as we face these challenges and look forward to brighter days.

The Encounter Pavilion became a space of spiritual awakening, drawing many closer to Christ. Attendees engaged in meaningful conversations and experiences that reinforced our commitment to supporting one another in faith. It was encouraging to see so many individuals embracing the hope that unites us, reinforcing our mission as a church community.

As we move forward from this incredible weekend, let us hold tight to the spirit of "Together in Hope" and continue to grow in faith, compassion, and harmony. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this 2026 Big Camp a remarkable success at the Encounters space!

Connections | Sarah Nicholas

Big Camp this year felt different in the best way. 'Sacred Chords' wasn’t just a theme; it became something we experienced together. It reminded us that faith isn’t something we figure out on our own, but something we hear, feel, and live out in community.

Across the weekend, there was a real sense of connection between people, in conversations, in worship, and in the quiet moments in between.

Through the messages shared by Dr Kendra Haloviak Valentine, many of us found our understanding of God being reshaped. Not distant or confusing, but present, gentle, and inviting us into something deeper. Instead of trying to have all the answers, we were reminded to listen, to lean in, and to trust that even in the tension, something meaningful is being formed.

What stood out most was the way worship and community came together. Showing up, singing, and sitting with one another became powerful moments. Even when life feels messy or heavy, there is a shared understanding that it’s okay to bring that with us. There’s something sacred in that honesty, in those in-between moments, in the chords that don’t always resolve straight away.

To our Connections pastoral team, thank you for your heart, leadership, and care. To the Café team, thank you for creating space to gather and connect. To our praise and worship team, thank you for leading us so intentionally. To our technicians working behind the scenes to make it all happen, thank you. And to every single person who showed up, you made this what it was.

There’s something special about what’s being built here. We’re already looking forward to doing it all again in 2027.

Youth 18+ | Amanda Hoglund

This year’s Big Camp was a memorable one! A major highlight was the strong sense of community that formed and grew so naturally over the weekend. For me personally, some of the most meaningful moments I shared with others came in unexpected places: the bus ride to and from the sugar glider service project, praying with a new friend and pastor after the program, and even waiting in line for free pancakes each morning. The activities brought even more energy and joy to the weekend. It was incredible to see youth from all around Victoria connect and bond over shared interests or the simple act of trying new things.

This year, I also got the chance to host the Youth Tent alongside Gabriel, a first-time experience for us both, but our willingness allowed us to witness God work through His people in empowering ways. Alongside Jono and Tash, around 100 people contributed to making the Youth Tent program possible, and their efforts were reflected throughout the weekend.

The most impactful part was Pastor Josh’s messages. Each one was a powerful reminder of who God is. He is a God who looks for us, who waits for us, who saves us and who gets us to the finish line. Our theme ‘Woven Together’ shone through the image he painted for us of a God who is intentional, compassionate and full of grace. Every night, I was left thinking, “I wish more people were here to listen to this”.

My Big Camp experience was a beautiful reflection of what it means to be woven together in Christ: connected, strengthened, and growing as one community.

High School | Jayden Croft

In the High School division this year, our theme was 'Secure in Hope'. In a world where constant news cycles and social media can leave young people feeling anxious and uncertain about the future, this theme was intentionally chosen to remind students that true security and hope are found in Jesus.

Our speaker, Pr Lachie Harders, explored this theme through the contrasting stories of King Ahaz and King Hezekiah from the book of Isaiah. Through his messages, students were challenged to reflect on where they place their trust and were reminded that even when circumstances seem overwhelming, our future can be secure because our hope is grounded in God. Throughout Big Camp, we returned to the definition of hope as “a decidedly positive view of the future, secured in God.”

The spiritual atmosphere of the weekend was enhanced by purposeful worship led by a band assembled by Jeremy Choo and a creative, impactful drama written by Pr Faye Stothers-Khan, both of which helped bring the theme to life. Pr Moses Depaz and Pr Miroslav Gagic also played key roles throughout the weekend, bringing devotional messages and working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure activities ran smoothly.

Hospitality and connection were strong focuses, with breakfasts each morning and a welcoming café experience each evening. Run by Rani Geelan, these moments provided spaces for conversation and encouragement.

Activities reflected the theme in practical ways. Teams earned tokens that were later used in Sunday’s dry land Regatta, where students designed and built cardboard yachts. While many vessels proved less than secure, the activity encouraged teamwork, creativity, and reflection on building life on a firm foundation.

We praise God for an incredible outcome, with over 100 young people making decisions for Jesus and 26 expressing their desire to be baptised. Please continue to pray for the High Schoolers of Victoria as God continues His work in their lives.

Juniors | Rahel Gungadoo

This year, the Junior division explored the hopeful theme of being ‘God’s Masterpiece!’

Through craft and games, our young campers were reminded that God created everyone with a unique purpose and gift. We made sure the Juniors had the chance to showcase these gifts at our Junior Talent Night, where we saw some awesome performances!

Moreover, our speaker Mal Naseli emphasised this message the whole weekend, sharing stories about the importance of trusting in God’s plan and treating ourselves and others with value and respect. To demonstrate their kindness and teamwork, our Juniors had the opportunity to put their faith into action by serving others at the Junior Car Wash.

A special highlight happened on Sunday night, when many Juniors made personal decisions to follow God. It was a meaningful moment, celebrated by leaders and campers alike. We hope that this experience will be one to remember and that we all live knowing that we are ‘God’s Masterpiece!’

Kids Division | Pr Uili Mauga

Easter weekend brought fun, energy, and faith to life at this year's Victoria Conference Big Camp, as children from across our state gathered for an unforgettable experience across our four dynamic divisions.

Our Upper Primary campers embarked on an exciting adventure as 'Treasure Hunters', discovering that the greatest treasures in life are found in God's Word. John Michael Ghosn connected well with the kids as he brought God’s special treasure to life. The kids were captivated by the activity stations organised and run by dedicated pastors and volunteers.

Meanwhile, Lower Primary journeyed through the sands of ancient Egypt with the story of 'Joseph's Journey from Prison to Palace' — a powerful reminder that God's faithfulness never wavers, even in our darkest moments. The children engaged in a rotation of activities, well prepared and run by our team of volunteers. To enhance the experience, the team brought the story to life by dressing in ancient Egyptian costumes.

The Kinder division embraced the theme 'Roar: Life is Wild. God is Good', exploring the wonderful truth that, no matter how unpredictable life can be, our God is always good. There definitely was a roar in this tent with Pr Adrian in his lion costume bringing the safari atmosphere, which he also showcased during our Family Mission concert. The team planned activity, story, craft, and free-play stations that aligned well with the theme and consistently engaged all the kids.

And our littlest campers in Beginners celebrated their very own 'King of the Jungle', learning that Jesus reigns over all creation with love and grace. A very enthusiastic and engaging team led up front by Pr Trent and Pr Landry, supported by their families, Pr Saw, and awesome volunteers.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible dedication of our volunteers, pastors, and division leaders who poured their hearts and countless hours into making Big Camp such an engaging and transformative experience. Your servant hearts and faithful service made all the difference, thank you!

The highlight of Sabbath afternoon was our Family Mission Concert, which once again drew a full house. Seeing families come together to watch their children shine at the front was a beautiful and moving reminder of why we do what we do. The energy, pride, and worship that filled the room were simply extraordinary, with a beautiful focus on mission.

We leave Big Camp 2026 with full hearts, renewed faith, and already counting down to next year!

A Hope That Unites

‘Together in Hope’ is more than a theme; it’s a reminder that we are not meant to walk alone, but rather with Christ. Through these wonderful reflections of camp, we see the powerful hand of God at work and that it is through Him that we can reach these heights of community impact. To have hope in the Lord is to trust in His purpose and plan; to be together in hope is to be living examples of Jesus’ love and sacrifice. To seek and serve those around us with compassion and grace, having faith that God is working through us in every season of our lives.

Big Camp has blessed many with reassurance, reflection, and a refreshed spirit, and we pray our community continues to be full of encouragement, growth, and a hope that inspires.
