A Gift of Hope

Another of our sister schools interstate has sent a lovely gift to the staff at the Narre Warren South Campus. Hope Adventist School in Bundaberg, Queensland gifted staff bottles of soft drink to let us know they are thinking of and praying for us all during these difficult times.

Mr S said, “What a thoughtful gesture from our Adventist Education family.”

Art Packs for Primary Students

One week our bus drivers helped Primary Art Teacher, Mrs Yolanda Horne, put together art packs for all of our primary students. These packs were then delivered to student’s homes.

Thank you to our amazing bus drivers for your continued help and assistance to all of our school community.

Heritage College Staff Support ADRA

During Term 3, our staff have been collecting and donating non-perishable food staples to ADRA, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency. ADRA supports those in financial crisis with essential food parcels that include long-life milk, rice, pasta, and tinned goods.

Our current collection project: The Great Wall of Weetbix!

Well done Team Heritage, and thank you to Miss Elyse Taylor for organising the collections.

Online Media Studies Assessment – a Success!

The best way to start remote learning is with an exam, right!  That’s what my Year 12 Media Studies students did in the first period on the first day. Pioneers, all of them, setting the stage for a teacher supervising students in their own homes via video chat. I’m so proud of my students for showing resilience and really stepping up with quite a complicated task in a two hour period.  Mr Evan Varty

Pr Doug Batchelor visits Heritage

A special guest speaker was on campus  for the Festival of Faith, Pastor Doug Batchelor from Amazing Facts Ministries.  Students from both campus locations came to listen to Ps Doug speak about his story of his journey to faith.

Thanks for joining us, Pastor Doug!

PB4L AND STAND TALL FUN DAY 2020

Monday the 3rd of February saw the two campus locations combine for the annual Stand Tall Fun Day and campus dedication to kick off the academic year.

The morning assembly included an official welcome to the newest members of the campus, as four exchange students from Japan join the college to experience life on campus. Please make sure to stop by and introduce yourselves as they practice their English Language speaking skills.

For this year’s service activity, students packed bags filled with hygiene essentials and non-perishable foods which will be distributed to the homeless in partnership with Casey Church. A short video was shown about homelessness in the city of Melbourne, hearing testimonies of people who have experienced homelessness in their life. Small gifts and handwritten notes were also prepared for local volunteer firefighters in response to their service to the community. We are looking forward to distributing these shortly.

Each tribe had an opportunity to go head to head in Capture the Flag and other physical challenges. The afternoon finished with an assembly, led by Ps Lagi.

Stand Tall Day 2020 marked a great start to the school year, reminding everybody on the day of the college values of excellence, resilience, respect and service.                                                   Mr Sonny Aiono

PREP ORIENTATION DAY – NARRE WARREN SOUTH CAMPUS

Due to Stage 3 Restrictions in place across the Metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shires, our team needed to make sure our families were safe but could still connect for the very important Prep Orientation Day for the Class of Prep 2021.

Instead of an on-campus event, we decided to offer our Preps and their families the opportunity to visit the classroom online. Ms Dennis created a video of the Prep Classroom, showing all guests through the Prep learning and outdoor spaces. Mrs Capon (Assistant to Deputy Principal) and Mrs Jackie Saluni (Enrolments) also joined us for the meeting. Our new Prep friends brought their favourite toy for Show and Tell, and Ms Dennis read her favourite story.

One of our incoming Prep parents said after the session that it was ‘nice to see and meet you online. That was an amazing session and we felt so warmly welcomed.’

After the Orientation Day, each of our guests received an email with a link to the video that they could watch through again with their soon to be ‘big school’ child at home. Our next Orientation Day is planned for Wednesday 9 September, so we will have more information closer to the date as to whether that will be an on-campus or virtual event.                                                                                     Mrs Fiona Spence

Secondary Encounter

If you are in Years 7-12 at Heritage College, you would have been surprised with a Care Package that was kindly delivered to your door, by our very kind bus drivers this week!

As we head in the last two weeks of Term 3 and Stage 4 lock down, the Encounter Bible Department thought that you might need a little lift!

Keep your PROMISE book mark handy: “Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart and lean not on your own understanding: in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” PROVERBS 3: 5-6

Special Delivery

This week the staff at Heritage College received little care packages from our sister schools in NSW. The packs included words of encouragement and some sweets, to let us know they are thinking of us during these tough times.

Mrs Nuske said, “It’s so nice to be reminded that we have the power of prayer behind us all.”

Staff Google-meet for Worship

It is not often that staff from both campuses are able to combine in the morning for worship, however the student free day on Tuesday the 4th of August presented the perfect morning to do so.  Our very own Mr John Kama (Secondary Science Teacher) presented a great little thought revolving around ‘3 Lockdowns in the Bible’.

The first lockdown was Noah and the Ark (Genesis 6 to 9) in which, scholars believe, Noah and his family were inside the boat for approximately one whole year. The second lockdown example in the Bible saw Jonah in the belly of a ‘big fish’ (Jonah 1 and 2), a rather unappealing location to be trapped within. Lastly, in the third lockdown story in the Bible sees the disciples and other believers, numbering 120, locked in an ‘upper room’ following Jesus’ death and resurrection (Acts 1) as they waited for a number of days for Jesus to bless them in what we now know as Pentecost.

The three common aspects of these lockdown stories were that they spent time in prayer, building a closer relationship with God.  The staff were inspired to stay the course and to remember that God is in control. During this COVID-19 lockdown we have been blessed with additional time, time in our homes to build closer relationships with our families, but most importantly with a loving God. Like the lockdown stories in the Bible, we hope that this period of lockdown sees your spiritual life grow too.       Mr Darren Martin

Year 4 Sleep Over

Many incursions and excursions have been cancelled this year, but the year 4 teachers managed to keep this annual event in a Virtual Sleepover in Week 4. Kids were excited, some set up tents in their home, others put up blankets on their bunk, while others still just enjoyed hanging out with friends over the computer. We played a few games and  watched a portion of the Penguin Parade from our local Phillip Island. Students learned new words like a ‘Raft’ which is a group of penguins while they are swimming, but on land they are called a ‘Waddle’. Here are some photos of our class.
