An Adventist Car Club was something that I had been thinking about for some time now, there are so many Adventist car enthusiasts that I know of, but no community for them to gather around. I guess it depends on where you live, or church you might go to for example.
But with social media there’s no reason why we couldn’t all connect. Since moving to Melbourne three years ago I’ve naturally gravitated towards the car scene and engage with a number of car clubs. I discovered that there were quite a few Adventists here and there and that’s what got me started on the idea of creating a Facebook group just for Adventist car enthusiasts.
Surprisingly the hardest part was coming up with a name. We tried to find bible verses that mentioned the word drive, or drove, etc. Then eventually I came across Mark 1:12 which reads, the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness” and I realised, the Holy Spirit was the first uber service!
So I thought, brilliant, that’s not a bad verse but I had to give it an Australian stamp of approval so the group name Marky 1:12 was born.
I told a few people I had added to add whoever they knew in their own Adventist circles that were into cars. Very quickly it grew and we now have 52 people in the group. The greatest part I’ve seen so far is people who had lost contact reconnecting with each other, and how some people have expressed appreciation for having a space to share their passion with fellow Adventists across Australia.
I had no expectations and still don’t, but if people are connecting and sharing our common love for cars, then it’s already a win.
