The ADRA Café run by Dandenong Polish SDA Church began in June 2020. Prior to this the church had never been directly responsible for a project like this.
Given the climate of 2020 and the restrictions that took place members had no idea how this project would take off. On their opening night they had 15 visitors. Two months later and with Stage 4 restrictions in place, they were the only program operating in their area and had close to 60 people attend weekly. They were not only provide hot meals and food hampers but also supporting people with clothing and other house items where possible. They added serving hot soup on Wednesday nights to meet the demands of the local community within the stage 4 restrictions.
“We feel that God is blessing this project from every angle,” says Wojtek Klauza. “People have been very generous with donations which has allowed us to purchase necessary equipment (such as two large freezers) to run this project at the scale it is growing.”
The team is made up of more than 40 volunteers who commit their time on a weekly basis to serve the most vulnerable in their community. ADRA Victoria has been supporting them on the side lines from the beginning, providing advice and the essential tools needed to launch this project.
“We thank GOD for HIS ongoing guidance and blessings. And as it states in Ephesians 3. 20 ‘Now all Glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more that we might ask or think.'”
