A collaboration between the local church and ADRA saw 24 cars receive a free oil change and wash.
The Oasis wanted to support those in the community who were unable to look after their cars. They recognized a need they had expertise to meet, so thought ‘Let’s give it a go!’ The plan was to provide a free oil change, replacement filter, vacuum and car wash for pensioners, health care card holders and single parents. Local businesses jumped on board, providing various materials needed and volunteers from Lilydale, Ringwood and Glen Huntly joined us to provide the labour and support staff.
On Sunday, August 26, guests dropped off their car and then sat down to a morning tea and chat with local members while their car was being worked on. On completion they received a report of any further work that should be looked at and a reminder of their next oil change.
The purpose of the program was to connect with the community in a practical and helpful way. One guest said it was a “great service to the community” and another even asked if they could volunteer next time. There were many who were very thankful for the program and, as one guest said “My car was in need and this perfectly speaks to me in my love language -Thank you!”
