Nunawading Christian College Primary ran a Creative Arts Festival Day, as a way of focusing on student wellbeing during the difficult time of remote learning due to Stage 3 and 4 restrictions. Students participated in a range of creative activities, watching video demonstrations from specialist teachers.
Throughout the day at home, students used coffee as paint to create winter trees, folded origami fish, learnt some choreographed movements and actions for worship songs, practised Chinese calligraphy, made healthy fruit balls and prepared rice paper rolls.
Here is some of the feedback received from school families:
Thank you so much for all the hard work and effort you put in for our children. We can feel everything is prepared wholeheartedly and carefully thought through. We as parents feel confident and assured with the love and care the school staff and teachers have put into our children, it makes this unpredictable time more bearable. Thank you.
Thank you teachers. The thought and extra time on top of what you are already doing never goes unnoticed. You provided stimulating, challenging activities that gave our children an outlet to express themselves without the limitations of time and ability level. They came away feeling good about what they had created and new skills they had learned.
Thank you for the creative ideas. The boys are going to use their coffee cards for my sister’s 40th in a couple of weeks, as she loves coffee. I hope they still smell by then! I heard lots of giggles coming out during the music lesson. They were having a blast.
Thank you so much for making this day special for the children. They have been working so hard at home in a very unnatural way and this gave them a break from the pressures of remote learning and a day of fun. We appreciate all that you are doing during this time.
Each session was fabulous, thank you very much. The whole family is planning to enjoy the art session on the weekend as well.
Nunawading Christian College, like all our Adventist Schools, believes strongly in nurturing the whole child – spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally – and this day was used to tap into all these areas while relieving some of the pressure of isolation and remote learning.
