In December 2019, Shane began managing a team to deploy a large number of computers for his health organisation. He never anticipated where it would lead back then. Listen as he tells his story…
A few months into the project, I thought it would be a good idea for the team to bond over food so I started a mini potluck for us. Other teams within the IT department wanted join us so the group grew bigger and we decided to hold them every second Monday.
Mid way through 2020, more temporary staff joined the team, to boos the rollout numbers.. AJ was one of the temp staff and as we conversed during one of our potlucks, he told me he was a Christian. He was very enthusiastic and reliable when I assigned tasks for him, and when the temp staff members eventually finished off with us, I thought about AJ straight away and asked if the helpdesk team had a vacancy. He got a casual full-time role and started working for the department.
At some point AJ and I began praying together, I’m not sure who suggested it, I think he did. I knew were a few other staff I knew were Christian, so I invited them to join us and we would meet together to pray after lunch.
One time after prayers, I mentioned how fascinating the book of Daniel is and that we should study it together. Then life took over and I became very busy over the next weeks and didn’t get to start. AJ kept reminding me about it. We bantered a lot so one time he said “stop being like Jonah”! I had already spoken to Pr Roy about having Bible studies at my work so AJ’s comment just made me speed things up a bit.
I wasn’t too sure where a quiet spot would be within the hospital to have the Bible studies. AJ suggested we just hold it in my office with the door closed. On the morning of the first scheduled Bible study, I asked the Director of IT, a self-professed atheist and a very nice guy, if we could hold the Bible study in the main meeting room and he said he had no issue with it and we could go ahead!
Praise God for leading me and other Christian friends here at work so far. We are able to pray together and share our joys and burdens when they arise. There will be a massive restructure that is scheduled later this year so I pray that we can continue to fellowship and share peace and hope with our colleagues who haven’t had the chance to know Christ for themselves yet.
Please pray for Shane and his Christian friends as they invite the Holy Spirit into their workplace.
